Lasting Restorations
Dental crowns are durable restorations that provide compromised teeth with long-term protection. These “caps” completely cover a damaged or decayed tooth, reinforcing the remaining structure to improve functionality. As crowns are available in a variety of materials, our dentists will help you choose the most appropriate option for your needs.
Conditions Addressed
Dental crowns can address a variety of conditions, including:
- Significant dental decay
- Extensive discoloration
- Injury resulting in cracks or fractures
- Misshapen teeth
- Infection, in conjunction with root canal therapy
At White Pine Dental, we also offer implant-supported crowns for superior stability and security. This type of restoration attaches to a dental implant to replace a single missing tooth. Together, a dental implant and restoration mimic the tooth from root to crown, helping to prevent bone loss, further misalignment, and other dental complications.
Treatments
Before treatment, your doctor will examine the structure of your smile and evaluate your oral health. This process will help us design your customized treatment plan. If you have a viable portion of tooth left, we may recommend a traditional crown or a same-day restoration. However, if your tooth is missing or requires extraction, an implant-supported crown may be more appropriate for your needs.
Traditional Crowns
Before your procedure, we can administer a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort. Once ready, we will reshape your tooth in preparation for your custom crown. Our team will then take impressions of your smile, which will be sent to a dental laboratory where your crowns will be manufactured. We may provide you with a temporary crown to wear while you await your final restorations. When your crown is finished, you will return to our office for placement. The entire process can take anywhere from two to three weeks.
Same-Day Crowns
Using advanced CEREC technology, we can design, fabricate, and place a custom porcelain crown in a single visit. Similar to a traditional crown procedure, we will numb your teeth and gums, and then prepare your tooth by modifying its structure. Then, we can take digital impressions to create a 3-D image of your smile. These scans will be used to design your custom restorations. Once planning is complete, we will transmit the design to our in-office milling unit, which will sculpt your crown from a block of high-end ceramic. To ensure natural-looking results, we will carefully color-match your dental crown to your surrounding teeth. When the crown is ready, we will carefully check the fit and color before cementing it in place.
For patients who qualify, we can provide same-day crowns using our advanced CEREC system to immediately repair a damaged tooth.
Implant-Supported Restorations
If you are receiving an implant-supported restoration, your treatment timeline will be extended, as you will first need to undergo dental implant surgery. After a three to six month healing period, you will be ready for your custom restoration. Implant-supported restorations provide a long-lasting solution to missing teeth.
